Callum, un artista visionario conocido por su enfoque innovador de la abstracción. A través de sus técnicas únicas y su profunda comprensión del color, la luz y el espacio, Innes invita a los espectadores a embarcarse en un viaje de introspección y contemplación.
En el corazón de la práctica artística de Innes se encuentra su notable proceso de “despintado”. Con intención deliberada, aplica lienzos meticulosamente enyesados y finalmente cubiertos de negro, solo para luego borrar y eliminar ciertas secciones. Este acto de sustracción se convierte en una parte integral de su expresión artística, revelando capas y texturas ocultas debajo de la superficie. Innes cree que a través de este proceso, la obra de arte se reduce a su esencia, invitando a los espectadores a participar en la interacción entre la presencia y la ausencia. La exploración de la abstracción de Innes se extiende más allá del acto de borrar. También emplea lavados, capas finas y translúcidas de pintura que fluyen y se mezclan orgánicamente en el lienzo. Esta técnica infunde a sus obras una sensación de fluidez y luminosidad, creando una cualidad etérea y atmosférica que atrae al espectador a un nivel visceral.
A lo largo de su distinguida carrera, Callum Innes ha recibido reconocimiento internacional por sus contribuciones innovadoras al mundo del arte, como el Premio Jerwood de pintura en 2002 y el Premio Nat West en 1998.
En 1995, Innes fue preseleccionado para el Premio Turner. Su exposición, aclamada por la crítica, From Memory, viajó por Europa y Australia y la Galería de Arte Whitworth en Manchester, Inglaterra, presentó recientemente una exposición de sus pinturas al óleo y acuarelas.

Through his unique techniques and profound understanding of color, light, and space, Innes invites viewers to embark on a journey of introspection and contemplation.
At the heart of Innes’ artistic practice lies his remarkable process of “unpainting” With deliberate intention, he applies meticulously gessoed canvas and ultimately covered in black, only to subsequently erase and remove certain sections. This act of subtraction becomes an integral part of his artistic expression, revealing hidden layers and textures beneath the surface. Innes believes that through this process, the artwork is stripped down to its essence, inviting viewers to engage with the interplay between presence and absence. Innes’ exploration of abstraction extends beyond the act of erasure. He also employs washes, thin and translucent layers of paint that flow and blend organically on the canvas. This technique infuses his works with a sense of fluidity and luminosity, creating an ethereal and atmospheric quality that engages the viewer on a visceral level.
Throughout his distinguished career, Callum Innes has received international acclaim for his groundbreaking contributions to the art world, such as the Jerwood Prize for painting in 2002 and the Nat West Prize in 1998.
In 1995 Innes was short-listed for the Turner Prize. His critically-acclaimed museum exhibition, From Memory, traveled throughout Europe and Australia and the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester, England recently presented an exhibition of his oil paintings and watercolours.

An installation of callum innes|colm tóibín water|colour, first exhibited at Sean Kelly gallery in 2010, was also featured at Art Basel Unlimited in 2011. In 2012 he was commissioned by the Edinburgh Arts Festival to transform the capital’s Regent Bridge, which he illuminated with a changing sequence of colored light. In 2016, Innes was the subject of a major retrospective survey exhibition and accompanying monograph, I’ll Close My Eyes, at the De Pont Museum in Tilburg Netherlands. |
