Parra & Romero is pleased to present Coherence Diagrams, the first solo exhibition by artist Ana Montiel (1981, Logroño) at our gallery in Madrid.

Coherence Diagrams begins with a simple question with profound implications: Can an inner change result in a change in the reality we inhabit?

Contemporary neuroscience demonstrates that directed and sustained attention produces measurable changes in neural architecture: new synaptic connections, alterations in biomarkers of neuroplasticity, and reconfigurations in the brain networks that construct perception. Building on this knowledge, and in dialogue with hypotheses drawn from quantum biology and studies on consciousness, the project explores the possibility that an inner transformation might alter the way we perceive and inhabit reality. The inner world generates, not merely reflects.

Ana Montiel is a visual artist who lives and works in Mexico City. Her practice explores the relationship between consciousness, perception, and processes of inner transformation, establishing a dialogue between painting, science, philosophy, and symbolic traditions.

The artist draws inspiration from diverse sources such as quantum biology, Jungian psychology, Eastern philosophies, the Alchemical tradition, and Stoic thought. These disciplines have reflected on the relationship between consciousness and the world, and Ana Montiel brings them into dialogue to explore a common question: how our way of perceiving shapes the reality we inhabit. Far from offering definitive answers, Coherence Diagrams invites us to consider perception as an active practice and to recognize that all transformation begins, perhaps, with a shift in perspective.

The exhibition brings together a series of paintings conceived as records of a process of transformation. Organized into panoramic compositions traversed by cuts, shifts, and evolutions, the works mark moments of transition and map out states of consciousness and perception. In them, painting functions as a field of visual research where forms, rhythms, and compositional variations do not merely illustrate concepts but embody them, making visible a process of change rather than a fixed reality. Each image is presented as an open diagram that records tensions, reorganizations, and shifts, inviting the viewer to explore it without a single interpretation or a fixed meaning, as if each painting were a provisional map of an ongoing transformation.

Ana Montiel’s work has been exhibited at international museums and galleries such as Museum Haus Konstruktiv, Zurich (2024–25), Fundación Medianoche0, Granada (2024–25), Lago/Algo, Mexico City (2024), Casa Pentra, Los Angeles (2024), OMR Gallery, Mexico City (2022), Nest, The Hague, Netherlands (2022), UCCA Dune Museum, Beidaihe, China (2020); Aparador Cuchilla, Mexico City (2020), Peana Off-Site, Gardiner, NY (2019), Sala Amós Salvador, Logroño (2018); and has participated in art fairs such as Art Basel (Basel and Miami Beach), Frieze London, The Armory Show (NY), and NADA Miami, among others.
