Parra & Romero presenta por primera vez en España la obra de Turi Simeti (1929-2021) uno de los exponentes más reconocidos de la escena artística italiana de mediados de siglo XX y, quizá, uno de los artistas más comprometido con la idea generadora de su proyecto.
Podríamos acordar que sin la repetición la singularidad no es posible. En palabras de Deleuze, “la repetición es un elemento notable contra lo ordinario. Desde todo punto de vista, repetir es transgredir”. El motivo elegido por Simeti fue la elipse, un elemento que, ya en sus etimología guarda un significado metafórico. La palabra ‘elipse’ se remonta a élleipsis (lo que falta) en un contexto donde el círculo representaba el todo. Si metafóricamente el círculo es la respuesta, la elipse sería la pregunta. Sea como sea, Simeti escogió la elipse y la puso a dialogar consigo misma y dentro del espacio del lienzo.
En 1966 Turi Simeti, 5 años después de su primera exposición, establecería su estudio en Milán, en Sesto San Giovanni, un barrio industrial donde Felice Valadè, una suerte de mecenas del arte, preparó una serie de espacios destinados a talleres para artistas. Además de Castellani y Bonalumi, en aquel barrio comenzaron a trabajar otros artistas como Barbanti, Luciano fabro, Paolo Gallerani o Hidetoshi Nagasawa entre otros. De todo el grupo de artistas del círculo de Milán, fue Simeti, quizá, quien más cercano estuvo a los presupuestos minimalistas. Acabó formando parte del grupo Azimuth en Italia (Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, Enrico Castellani, Dadamaino, etc.) y del grupo ZERO en Alemania (Heinz Mack, Otto Piene, Günther Ueker, Yves Klein, Yayoi Kusama,etc.).
La luz, la sombra, el espacio, el color y la percepción del volumen fueron las constantes que marcaron su obra. Buscar la diferencia en la repetición a través del ritmo y la estructura, una investigación sobre la pauta y el método.
Turi Simeti. A Continuous Act With a Specific Form es la primera retrospectiva del artista italiano en España. Con obras de sus primeros años donde se evidencia la influencia de algunos de sus referentes, pasando por algunas de sus piezas más importantes de la década de los 70 y 80 donde su obra se define y llegando a sus últimos trabajos donde acaba sublimándose.
Parra & Romero is pleased to presents for the first time in Spain the work by Turi Simeti (1929-2021) in a retrospective exhibition of one of the most recognized exponents of the Italian art scene of the mid-20th century and, perhaps, one of the most committed artists with the generating idea of his project.
We could agree that without repetition singularity is not possible. In Deleuze’s words, “Repetition is a remarkable element against the ordinary. From every point of view, to repeat is to transgress”. The motif chosen by Simeti was the ellipse, an element that, even in its etymology, has a metaphorical meaning. The word ‘ellipse’ it’s a reference to the Greek word ‘élleipsis’ (what is missing) in a context where the circle represented the whole. If metaphorically the circle is the answer, the ellipse would be the quest. Be that as it may, Simeti chose the ellipse and put it into dialogue with itself and within the space of the canvas.
In 1966 Turi Simeti, 5 years after his first exhibition, would establish his studio in Milan, in Sesto San Giovanni, an industrial neighborhood where Felice Valadè, a kind of art patron, prepared a series of spaces for artists’ workshops. In addition to Castellani and Bonalumi, other artists such as Barbanti, Luciano Fabro, Paolo Gallerani and Hidetoshi Nagasawa, among others, began to work in that neighborhood. He was part of the Azimuth Group in Italy (Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, Enrico Castellani, Dadamaino, etc.) and the ZERO movement in Germany (Heinz Mack, Otto Piene, Günther Ueker, Yves Klein, Yayoi Kusama, etc.)
Light, shadow, space, color and the perception of volume were the constants that marked his work. Finding what is different in repetition, through rhythm and structure, an investigation into pattern and method.

A Continous Act With a Specific Form it’s is the first retrospective show by the italian artist in Spain featuring works from his early years where the influence of some of his references is evident, going through some of his most important pieces from the 70s and 80s where his work is defined and reaching his last works where he ends up sublimating.
